The history of Bust The Bookmaker

The idea was born around two years ago. While thinking about my weekend accumulator bet it suddenly occurred to me that if I knew every team in the country as well as I knew my own, I would have a much better chance of winning my wager. In order to do this I would have to create a network of football experts who shared their advice before each game. With 'community' websites popping up all over the place I realised the World Wide Web was the vehicle for turning my idea into reality!

At first I tested the concept through email. A number of people would simply send me their predictions before the game and I would distribute these predictions back to everyone taking part. While this proved to be cumbersome and highly administrative, it served the purpose of confirming that people were very interested in the idea and that it actually helped predict the outcome of games.

The next step was developing a website to allow more people to take part and to cut out much of the admin. This is where the project stalled. I wasn't capable of building the complex database required to run the website.

A few months ago I met a very capable web designer who quickly realised the potential of the idea. I also met with a super intelligent statistics PhD who created the complex formulas required for calculating odds based on predictions from our members. Together we agreed to build BustTheBookmaker.com.

I hope you enjoy the results!

The Concept

You know your team better than the bookmaker. So do certain other fans for their teams. You know all about injuries, suspensions, team moral and dressing room spirit. You know which player always scores against certain opposition, and who always has a stinker. Most importantly you are able to make accurate predictions about the outcome of your team's next match. Therefore by sharing accurate predictions with other accurate members, everyone can become an expert on every single team!

The key is ensuring you monitor the accuracy of members so you know whose predictions hold more weight than others. To do this we monitor the accuracy of members and give them a rating that can change from week to week. Gold members know their team exceptionally well and are consistently accurate when predicting results. Silver members are accurate to an extent but have room for improvement. Bronze members have some catching up to do!

So what do you have to do?

Make predictions! We then manipulate your predictions and apply some very clever formulae to calculate the odds of various outcomes. Then we compare our odds to those being offered by the bookmaker. At this point we are able to calculate our Top Tips!

The Top Tips that you view will vary according to your status. Gold members will view Top Tips derived exclusively from other Gold Members predictions. Silver members Top Tips will be derived from predictions by Gold and Silver members. Bronze members Top Tips will be based on predictions received by ALL members. So the more accurate you are, the more accurate the predictions you will view! You must enter predictions to gain full access to the website. Eventually prizes will be awarded to members who make the biggest improvements in accuracy and for those who consistently perform well.

The future for BustTheBookmaker.com

This is a unique concept and a brand new website. At first we will be dealing only with football for the English Premiership and Championship, and the Scottish Premier League and First Division. At the beginning of next year we plan to expand the website to include other leagues and sports.
